Park managers and scientists can protect ecosystems if they have the science and technology to guide and support their efforts. Major challenges—such as those we face with climate change—require new and innovative techniques and more extensive mitigation tools.
A priority project in this category would be:
- Control Lion Fish
Lion fish are a voracious, non-native predator of small fish. They are now found in all South Florida parks and are expected soon in Northern Florida and eventually the Carolinas. Funding would support a control program, including divers, to mitigate impacts on park fish populations.
