Advisory Council Established

March 31, 2016 – An Advisory Council has been established to assist the Nature Fund for National Parks in identifying high quality projects for funding and matching those projects to potential funders. Initial members are:

  • Dr. Jayne Belnap, U.S. Geological Survey specialist in biological soil crusts
  • Gary Davis, marine ecologist with world-wide experience, President of GEDavis & Associates, and long-time science advisor to the National Park Service, stationed at Channel Islands National Park
  • Denis Galvin, former Deputy Director of the National Park Service, where he was a champion of the Natural Resource Challenge effort to substantially increase capabilities for obtaining and using science information for park
  • David Graber, former Chief Scientist for the National Park Service’s Western Region and previously field scientist stationed at Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks
  • Tom Kiernan, until recently President of the National Parks Conservation Association, currently CEO of the American Wind Energy Association, with a long career in environmental organizations, agencies
  • David Manski, who recently retired after 35 years in a variety of science and resource management positions with the National Park Service, including 20 years as Chief of Natural Resources and Cultural Heritage at Acadia National Park, during which he also undertook several international assignments
  • Dr. Michael Soukup, former National Park Service Associate Director for Natural Resource Stewardship and Science and former Director of the Schoodic Education and Research Institute
